Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR)
Pressure systems: written schemes of examination, safe operating limits and maintenance.
All standards
What it covers
PSSR applies to pressure systems containing a relevant fluid — steam at any pressure, and gases or liquids under pressure above a set threshold. Typical examples are steam boilers and pipework, air compressors and receivers, and pressure vessels on process plant.
Who it applies to
Users of installed pressure systems and owners of mobile systems, as well as designers, manufacturers and installers.
Key duties
- Establish the safe operating limits of the system.
- Before the system is operated, have a written scheme of examination drawn up or certified by a competent person, covering the protective devices, vessels and pipework where a defect could give rise to danger.
- Have the system examined by a competent person in accordance with the written scheme, at the intervals the scheme sets.
- The competent person reports on each examination; where there is imminent danger, the system must not be used until the defect is remedied, and the enforcing authority is informed.
- Provide adequate operating instructions, maintain the system in good repair and keep records.
How Censiary helps
- Pressure systems held in the Plant Register alongside the rest of your plant.
- The written scheme's examination dates tracked per item, with reminders.
- Examination evidence and defects linked to the asset and its tag.
