Work at Height Regulations 2005

Work at height: planning, competence, equipment selection and inspection.
All standards

What it covers

The regulations apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury — including access to crane walkways, roofs, platforms, ladders, mobile elevating work platforms and fall-arrest equipment.

Who it applies to

Employers and those who control work at height, such as facilities managers and building owners who contract others.

Key duties

  • Work at height must be properly planned, appropriately supervised and carried out by competent people.
  • Avoid work at height where reasonably practicable; where it cannot be avoided, use work equipment or other measures to prevent falls; where risk remains, minimise the distance and consequences of a fall.
  • Select work equipment that gives collective protection in preference to personal protection.
  • Where safety depends on how equipment is installed or assembled, inspect it after installation and before use; where it is exposed to conditions causing deterioration, inspect it at suitable intervals.
  • Keep reports of inspections, and manage the risks from fragile surfaces and falling objects.

How Censiary helps

  • Access equipment, anchor points and fall-arrest kit tagged and held in the Plant Register.
  • Pre-use and periodic inspections recorded task by task on iPhone or iPad.
  • Competence of the people doing the work held against each asset kind (Training Register, available to demonstrate and configure for your site).

Talk to us about a pilot

Pilot programmes are agreed site by site. Tell us about your lifting equipment and plant, and we will show you Lifting Protect on your own assets.
